A few words from the Girls Under 15 Red Captain

My name is Ciara Gavin and I joined LOASS Under 13’s last season. I signed-up with some other girls that I knew from my previous team, Enfield ladies, which helped me settle in. It took time to get to know the other girls, but as we trained and played football matches together our team grew stronger. We all get on well which really helps when we have a match and we know what to expect from each other. We rely on each other for support on and off the pitch and we give each other praise and encouragement to keep all our heads up. Our performance in a match depends on constant communication and everyone giving 100%. As long as we do that then we will still be proud of each other no matter what the score line is.Last season we were winners of the President cup which made our whole team, parents and Coach feel really happy and proud. It made us realise that we will be able to win more trophies in the future because our teamwork and determination gets us results! Considering we only lost three matches last season as we were all getting to know each other and how each of us play, we ended up third in the league which is a great achievement!
I felt honored to be voted ‘Player’s player’ at the end of the season which was totally unexpected. I consider all the girls in my team as good friends and great footballers. Most of us went on the Butlin’s, Bognor Regis tour in May which was great fun! It was an opportunity for both players and parents to get to know each other better. We gained third place and I will never forget how it felt to go on stage to receive our trophies. We enjoyed the celebrations!
This season we are playing a year up as we as a team and our coach feels we will benefit from the challenge and that it will help us to improve our tactics and play overall. I would love it if we were to win the league. But whatever position we achieve, we will know that we have a talented team who are dedicated and play to their best abilities whilst getting stronger all the time.
I have been chosen to captain the team this season. I feel proud to lead the team and it has boosted my confidence. I take my responsibilities as captain and role model seriously and am honored to be given this opportunity. At training and on match days I take the warm-ups and cool-downs. If our Coach has yet to arrive, then it is my responsibility to take the lead. On the pitch I give both encouragement and guidance to the girls. I am proud to be part of LOASS and I strive to better myself both as a player and team captain.
